The Kusudi Method
Kusudi means purpose, and at Kusudi Village, purpose guides everything we do. Our parent coaching method is rooted in the belief that children thrive when adults parent with intention, cultural grounding, and a willingness to grow alongside them.
Drawing from African-centered principles and the insights shared in J’Nefer Higgins’ work, our approach helps parents slow down, observe, and understand the why behind a child’s behavior, learning style, and emotional needs. Rather than focusing on quick fixes or labels, we center clarity, reflection, and practical strategies that strengthen the parent–child relationship.
The Kusudi method invites parents to:
Understand behavior as communication, not defiance
Use structure and consistency as tools for safety and growth
Support identity development with cultural awareness and affirmation
Balance compassion with clear expectations
Build skills that support learning, self-esteem, and emotional regulation
Through coaching, reflection, and guided support, parents gain tools they can use in everyday moments—at home, in school conversations, and during life’s transitions. The goal is not perfection, but intentional parenting that honors both the child’s development and the family’s values.
At Kusudi Village, parenting is not meant to be done alone. With purpose, support, and understanding, families can build a foundation where children feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
